Job Description

Position Summary:

The Contact Center Telephone Triage Nurse is expected to provide rapid assessment of the chief complaint supplied by the patient or caregiver and provide early recognition of urgent or potentially life-threatening symptoms requiring EMS assistance. After assessment, it may be that the patient will need to be seen day of by a primary care provider, or be referred to the closest WIC or ER services area. This position works very closely with nurse case management, nursing assessments, collaboration with providers and other departments, and provision of quality in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and accreditation standards. The nurse must use critical thinking, in combination with guidelines and regulations, to determine the direction of the patient’s care. They must be able to provide direction via standardized protocols in clear, calm and concise manner and have the ability to document accurately and completely in Epic through the use of Telephone Encounters routed to the appropriate clinical staff. This nurse will meet monthly with the Contact Center Manager and overseeing Chief Nursing Officer for quality assurance purposes. The nurse will assist in training any new nurses to this position.

Essential Functions:

1. Exceptional customer service skills in person and over the telephone in addition to excellent communication skills.

2. Working knowledge of telephone operations.

3. Provide early recognition of urgent or potentially life threatening symptoms and conditions and be able to quickly and thoroughly follow algorithms.

4. High functioning and demonstrated knowledge of computer systems and EMR systems.

5. Type over 45 words per minute and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

6. Ability to function in a rapid high stress environment.

7. Need to be highly flexible.

8. Other duties as assigned.

9. Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.



1-3 years clinical RN experience.

Graduate of accredited nursing school.

Registered Nursing license for the State of Washington.

Recent ambulatory experience.

Exceptional Customer Service in person and over the phone.

Demonstrated and outstanding critical thinking.

Team centric. Ability to work in a team environment.

Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.


3-5 years clinical RN experience preferred.

BSN preferred.

Bilingual in Spanish speaking, reading and writing.
