Job Description

OVERALL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Business Intelligence Analyst understands how data is turned into information and knowledge and how that knowledge supports and enables key business processes. They must have an in-depth understanding of the business environment and an interest in going beyond the obvious, delving into the source, the definition, philosophy, and foundational roots of a data element in order to create information. They must work well within a team environment.

JOB FUNCTIONS

System build and maintenance

Provide assistance to leadership by developing reports to manage day-to-day operations.

Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.

Acquire data from primary or secondary sources and maintain databases.

Filter and clean data, review reports, and correct any coding issues.

Utilize report writing tools from various systems to provide data and reports.

Effectively analyze data in order to identify trends or patterns.

Analyze and evaluate clinical, operational, and financial systems and processes.

Work closely with information technology during upgrades, implementations, and interfaces.

Coordinate with system administrators, applications managers, and analysts within the division to streamline workflow.

Assist in feasibility analysis of major capital projects and the analysis of inpatient/hospital and outpatient lines of business. Provide supporting data and assist with research.

Testing and quality assurance

1. Adhere to all IT change control processes

2. Develop and utilize testing and communication plans

3. Recommend, development and communicate policies/methods to ensure proper testing is accomplished

4. Identify, communicate and work with IT and clinic staff to ensure adequate testing is accomplished prior to system implementation or enhancements

5. Ensure system changes are communicated to all stakeholders

Training

6. Work closely with trainers on all changes and new features to develop documentation and training strategies

7. Train individuals or groups as needed

8. Attend regular clinic/team meetings to improve system utilization

User Support

9. Provide system support for all identified issues and requests

10. Troubleshoot, resolve and document system issues

11. Document FAQ’s and common solutions

12. Meet or exceed customer service standards

13. Participate in the oncall rotation

Project Management

14. Document key tasks and milestones associated with assigned modules

15. Set and manage to timelines related to assigned tasks

16. Prioritize and communicate potential barriers and recommend alternate strategies

17. Utilize project management tools to document issues and status of assigned tasks

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree or three years of experience in lieu of a degree or (LPN/RN plus one year data or reporting experience).

Prefer two years as a clinical team member who will bring department specific workflow knowledge to the role.

Prefer two years of experience with business intelligence as a data or reporting analyst.

Prefer certification in at least one Clarity Data Model (EPIC)

Experience with data warehouse and reporting technologies.

Experience with data mining techniques leveraging SQL or other extract tools.

Experience with data analysis, ensuring quality and consistency with data solutions.

Experience with SAP Crystal Reports and SAP Business Objects

Prefer experience in the healthcare field.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

Maintain all state licensing requirements.

Take ongoing training that is required by Confluence Health.

Ability to attend classes/seminars and complete certification(s) as assigned.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, calculator, telephone, and other office equipment. Working under stress and use of telephone required. Requires normal range of hearing, eyesight, and verbal communication to record, prepare and communicate appropriate information and reports. Ability to sit for long periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment which consists of sitting at a desk for long periods of time, talking on the telephone, or working on computers and paperwork. This environment also consists of working in close proximity to co-workers.

HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Updates Safety skills on an annual basis. Understands and complies with WVMC safety procedures, including codes and evacuation procedures. Updates CPR skills as needed. Complies with clinic/department standards pertaining to attendance. Understands and follows all universal blood and body fluid precautions. There is the possibility to be exposed to infectious diseases, medical preparations and other conditions common to a clinical setting.
