Job Summary

The Grants writer is responsible for proactively identifying and pursuing funding sources, including developing and executing strategies for acquiring funding from private foundations, public entities and all levels of government sources; the writing and timely submission of grant applications; and managing post-funding reporting and audit requirements. The Grants writer will successfully manage and grow a multi-year portfolio/pipeline of donors. The Grants writer will report to the VP, Executive Trustee.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Monitor web sites and other sources for Request for Proposal (RFP) announcements and keep VP, Executive Trustee informed of relevant RFPs

Proactively research new sources of Foundation and Government revenues

Maintain a strong working knowledge of available funding opportunities, demographics and other quantitative data that may support strong grant applications

Prepare grant proposals for submission and working closely with project managers and CH Finance

Maintain a strong working knowledge of Confluence Health’s mission and needs

Develop and maintain a system for tracking grant deadlines

Develop and maintain a system for tracking work progress, reporting deadlines and agreement stipulations to ensure that project managers are fulfilling the requirements of each grant. Ensure that appropriate documentation is being maintained.

Prepare timely reports to keep senior leadership informed of grant opportunities, deadlines and status

Facilitate and inform team based discussion with senior leadership in making decisions to pursue funding opportunities

Manage and coordinate all grant RFP application activities, including planning, writing, document gathering, internal and external communications and final submissions

Function as primary writer and editor for all applications and proposals, working with relevant program staff and leadership

Work with financial staff and relevant program staff and leadership to develop accurate budget information for all proposal applications

Lead staff in researching and identifying potential funding and create strategies to achieve

Work with senior leadership and finance to identify ongoing and potential projects for grant funding

Responsible for production, ensuring relevant attachments are included, mailing and/or electronic submission of proposals.

Effectively communicate with grant contract points of contact. Manage all aspects of interim and final reports to funding agency

Document grant requirements, including federal requirements, that are applicable to each grant received

Document, and educate, project managers and leadership regarding federal grant requirements

Coordinate with external auditors on audits performed on specific grants and/or A-133 audits.

Demonstrated knowledge of Foundation and Government application processes and contracts management

B.S. or B.A. required; M.A. or M.S. preferred

Demonstrated knowledge of Foundation and Government funding streams and cycles

Minimum of (3) years of successful grant writing experience in a nonprofit environment with a proven record of securing funding from Government and private sources

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to build relationships with a variety of people both internal and external

Effective organizational skills

Must be a creative self starter

Possess familiarity with state, federal and foundation funding sources

Detail oriented and ability to work under tight deadlines

Ability to work efficiently and produce quality work

Ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple projects efficiently

Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment; able to adapt quickly to manage changing circumstances
