IT – Pharmacist Analyst

Job Description

Position Summary:

  • The Systems Analyst – Pharmacy works collaboratively with the users of clinical and pharmacy information systems. The Analyst is responsible for all phases of the pharmacy information system implementation and ongoing operation within their assigned specialty or area and providing backup support for additional areas or specialties. These aspects include planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of systems, processes, and workflow. The analyst shall maintain a positive working relationship with the end user departments seeking opportunities for collaboration and consolidation of effort for organization initiatives and acting as an advocate of IT systems to the end users while providing a conduit to appropriate IT personnel from the end user community. Throughout the performance of all assigned tasks, the analyst shall stay current on trends and developments in the functional areas and opportunities to leverage technology to meet evolving needs (especially after go-live).
Essential Functions:

    • Supports implementation of pharmacy information applications.
      • Holds primary responsibility for the design, build and test processes for assigned specialties within the various hospital and pharmacy information systems.
      • Analyzes current and future end user department requirements, procedures and workflow, in order to provide application solutions that support and improve the organization, division, and/or department operations while meeting the strategic goals determined by the IT Management Team with input from other sources.
      • Utilizes knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine functions that are suitable for computer applications and to ensure that pharmacy and clinical information systems are consistent with professional and regulatory standards of clinical practice.
      • Coordinates transition to live environment of assigned application and application functionalities.
      • Collaborates with other analyst to develop functionalities directly or indirectly related to their assigned specialties including interfaces and dependent software.
      • Maintains functional knowledge of back-up assignments.
      • Supports other analysts with their tasks to keep project on task.
      • Ensures the on time execution of all assigned deliverables.
    • Supports operation of pharmacy information applications.
      • Tests, debugs and documents system modifications and upgrades.
      • Training ability to provide in-house expertise to employees and organizational entities.
      • Develop and manage appropriate applications monitoring and data validation processes for all assigned applications or application functions, (outcomes from technology, ie meeting desired goals).
      • Manage and monitor appropriate third party interfaces with assigned applications.
      • Provides after hours on-call applications support as necessary and as assigned.
    • Pharmacy liaison between IT Department and Functional Areas
      • Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with end user departments to ensure optimal utilization of the Hospital’s clinical and pharmacy applications, while providing appropriate levels of end user training and education as needed.
      • Assists clinical and pharmacy staff in identifying cause and solution to relevant application issues.
      • Provides cross training for other members of the IT staff with regard to pharmacy information systems.
      • Supports functional areas during upgrades or system modifications.
      • Stay current on trends and developments in the functional areas and opportunities to leverage technology to meet evolving needs (especially after go-live).

  • Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
  • Required:
    • A Bachelor’s degree with a clinical focus.
    • 3-5 years pharmacy experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement clinical and pharmacy information systems.
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documentation and literature.
  • Desired:
    • A Master’s degree with a concentration in a healthcare technology field.
    • Previous experience implementing electronic health information system strongly preferred.
    • Current and relevant technology experience (PC, applications, software support).
    • R.Ph or Pharm.D
    • A certification in Nursing, Nursing Informatics or a related certification.
    • Knowledge of the Healthcare IT industry, major vendors and products highly.
