Job Description

Position Summary:

  • The Distribution Technician works as a team member to meet the needs for supplies and equipment at the end-user department level in order to ensure quality patient care. Accurately inventories, orders, picks and distributes stock to meet established par levels. Answers calls for immediate supply or equipment needs from end-user departments.
Essential Functions:

    • Communicates daily with customers regarding back-orders, abnormal usage or any other needs.
    • Store incoming Distribution Center supplies in appropriate locations.
    • Utilizing either a hand-held inventory device or an inventory list, performs inventory function according to established procedures within assigned storage areas.
    • Accurately picks all items requested and either labels them for distribution, delivers them to the requesting departments or restocks items to department inventory location.
    • Matches the requisition with the supplies picked to ensure the accuracy of the shipment.
    • Determines and maintains par levels in designated area, and makes appropriate recommendations for change to the Inventory Management Specialist.
    • Replenishes primary locations on an as-needed basis from secondary stock locations.
    • Answers calls for supply and equipment needs from end-user departments in a timely manner consistent with department policies and procedures.
    • Delivers non-stock supplies and equipment to proper end-user departments.
    • Examines supplies and equipment for damage and defects and takes appropriate action.
    • When inventorying or stocking, rotates stock, checks for outdated supplies and removes any outdated supplies per department policies and procedures.
    • Notifies appropriate team member of any variance from information provided and any damaged or outdated supplies.
    • Organizes and maintains assigned areas in a clean, efficient and safe manner.
    • Performs cycle counts and physical inventories as directed in all Inventory locations under Supply Chain Management’s responsibility.
    • Attends all department in-service sessions as scheduled.
    • Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
    • Enters credits and charges for departments in to the MMIS.
    • Maintains data, including identification of duplicate MMIS numbers; recommendations for adds, changes or deletes to customer profiles; and recommendation for deletion of items.
    • When appropriate, borrows items that are not available for customer use.
    • Safely uses: electrical forklift, electrical pallet jack, manual pallet jack, barrel hand truck, standard hand truck, standard delivery cart, trucks used for distribution.
    • Utilizes the Supply Chain Management Information System per department policies and procedures.
    • Stocks Central Services supplies and equipment in appropriate locations.
    • Receives and delivers surgical supplies and fills requisition requests in Central Services.
    • Orders warehouse stock as needed.
    • Address patients, visitors, families, and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner: display courtesy at all times.
    • Respond quickly and appropriately to inquiries and requests.
    • Assist co-workers without being asked.
    • Display an unhurried and caring manner with visitors, families, and co-workers when performing duties.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all patient-hospital or physician related information. Refrain from gossip and speak in low tones in all appropriate areas.
    • Demonstrate a pleasing disposition and sensitivity to visitors’, families, and co-workers’ needs.
    • Perform related assignments as requested in order to promote positive visitor, family, and co-worker relations.
      • Communicate, cooperate and perform related duties with other co-workers in your department and in other departments in a courteous and efficient manner to achieve overall hospital goals and objectives.
      • Greet all visitors, families, and co-workers, patients and physicians in a courteous, respectful and professional manner at all times. Respond to all visitors, clients, families, and co-workers with empathy and positive interpersonal skills at all times.

  • Required:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
    • Must be able to do simple mathematical calculations.
    • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in cooperation with other team members in a fast-paced environment.
    • Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.
    • Telephone and photocopier skills.
    • Excellent memory.
    • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Desired:
    • Warehouse, inventory, and medical supply experience
    • Knowledge of Supply Chain Management information systems
