Job Description

Position Summary:

  • Receives, sorts, and processes requests for release of medical information to patients, non-Clinic providers, insurance third party requests, Attending Physician’s Statements, Life Insurance exams and other persons or entities requesting record copies.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • Previous office experience.
    • 10-key and typing skills helpful.
    • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively using the English language
    • Must relate effectively with co-workers, physicians, staff, patients and the general public and function as part of a team. (Comply with Teamwork Performance Standards.)
    • Must be able to work amidst on-going distractions.
    • Must be able to communicate in writing.
    • Must be able to organize (i.e., filing systems and clerical processes).
    • Must exhibit a pleasant phone manner.
    • Must be able to reason and think logically to solve problems.
    • Must be able to use judgment and make decisions.
    • Must pay attention to detail to assure accuracy and completeness of work.
    • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information. (Adhere to WVC Confidentiality Standard.)
    • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.
    • Must be able to respond calmly in emergency situations.
    • Must be able to deal effectively with public in confrontational situations.
    • Working knowledge of the Uniform Health Care Information Act desirable to start/required after 6 months.
  • Desired:
    • High School diploma/GED with some college.
    • Medical office experience.
    • Working knowledge of the Soundex Filing System.
    • Working knowledge of clinic’s computer systems.
