Job Description

Position Summary:

  • A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who delivers care to patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Effectively interacts with patient, significant others, and other health team members, while maintaining standards of professional nursing. (Washington State Nurse Practice Act, WAC, ANA Code of Ethics)
  • The successful candidate will obtain ACLS, PICC, procedural sedation, Portacath, swallow screening, ABG competency and Code Gray training within 12 months of hire and maintain all certification while functioning as the Stat Nurse. He/She will complete all needed competency checklists with in one year. He/she will have cardiac nursing, critical care or emergency department experience. Excellent IV start, PICC insertion within 3 months of hire, Port-A-Cath, and central line access and care skills are required. The Stat Nurse will be skilled at assessments, crisis/rapid response team intervention, Code Blue intervention, and assisting with trauma. He/she will consistently demonstrate a fast, fresh, friendly, flexible attitude. Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.
Essential Functions:
  • Essential Functions:
    • The purpose of the Stat R.N. role is to provide support to the patient care unit staff and patients. In addition to the required knowledge, training, general RN functions, employee expectations and job responsibilities as delineated in the Register Nurse Job Description, the Stat RN duties and responsibilities are as follows:
    • Crisis /rapid response team intervention;
    • Code Blue intervention.
    • Difficult IV access, PICC insertion, Port-A-Cath and central line access, monitoring and care.
    • Assess, implement and monitor in-house procedural sedation;.
    • Transport patients within CWH who need advanced RN care during transport.
    • Function effectively on multiple units including specialty units;
    • Direct and ED patient admissions.
    • Break relief with focus on units with limited staffing.
    • General patient care as requested by unit staff to relieve unit workload and to support staff and patients during critical staffing events when unit(s) may have insufficient staff or high acuities. This assistance is expected to be supportive in nature and not result in the Stat RN taking a routine patient assignment on the unit unless patient safety is compromised and approved by the Clinical Manager/ Resource Unit Director.
    • Providing PICC/IV services to off-site departments as established through policy or contract with Central Washington Hospital.
  • Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
  • Required:
    • Educational preference is given to the Stat Nurse as a member of the Resource Unit.
    • Supersedes Stat RN job description dated 03/2011.
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (NLN standard).
    • Current licensure in the state of Washington (RCW 18.88).
    • Completion of formal hospital and unit-specific orientation program.
    • Must be currently certified in BLS, and recertified annually.
    • Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.
