Job Description
POOL POSITION-NO GUARANTEE OF SCHEDULED HOURS
Position Summary:
  • Performs all routine and special diagnostic radiographic procedures. Provides patients with safe, courteous and efficient care. Assists in other sections of the department as needed.
Essential Functions:
  • Essential Functions:
    • Prepares for and performs all radiographic examinations by positioning patients and adjusting equipment exposure factors. Knowledge of all radiographic equipment.
    • Assists Radiologists in fluoroscopic procedures; may be required to perform minor fluoroscopic procedures under their direction according to their current radiology technology certification.
    • Review images for technical quality.
    • Completes “Informed Consent” and “Prescreening” forms as needed.
    • Completes required training and competencies for EKG’s at facilities that provide this service.
    • Administers contrast media injections.
    • Maintains the cleanliness of the radiographic machines and associated minor equipment in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.
    • Instructs and supervises student radiographers and provides input for all student evaluations.
    • Required to take standby as needed.
    • If working less than 40 hours per week, may be required to work scheduled days off.
    • Assists in Reception, Image Management and other modalities as needed.
    • Attends department meetings and participates in in-house inservice education.
    • Follows good radiation safety, quality assurance and infection control procedures.
    • Responsible for understanding, following, and finding policies for Confluence Health.
    • Completes required documentation for each examination performed.
    • Lifts patients as needed and when this can be accomplished safely and according to policy. Transfers patients using safe ergonomic technique and utilizes the hydraulic lift or other safe patient handling devices and the patient’s family members or caregivers when necessary.
    • Maintains patient confidentiality.
    • Obtains required licensure for blood draw if needed- paid by employer.
    • Completes competency and skills checklist every year.
    • Completes any required learning modules online or in the department as assigned.
  • Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
Qualifications:
  • Required:
    • Completion of a course in radiologic technology approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
    • Clinical experience in diagnostic radiology and fluoroscopy obtained during completion of the course listed as “required” in the education section.
    • ARRT registered or actively pursuing registry with an ACTIVE Washington State Xray Technician license.
    • Washington State certification as Radiology Technologist.
    • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to sufficiently position for the radiographic examination to be performed.
    • Knowledge of the factors of radiographic exposure (MAS and KV) sufficient to operate equipment safely.
    • Knowledge of RIS and PACS.
    • Computer skills.
    • Ability to relate effectively with co-workers, physicians and staff and function as a part of a team.
    • Ability to relate effectively to patients, guests and the general public.
    • Ability to respond calmly in an emergency situation.
    • Ability to deal effectively with the public in confrontational situations.

    • Updates CPR skills as required.
    • Understands and complies with Confluence Health safety procedures, including code and evacuation procedures.
    • Understands and complies with Diagnostic Imaging Department Radiation Safety Policies and Procedures.
    • Understands and follows all universal blood and body substance precautions and associated engineering and work practice controls and personal protective equipment requirements.
    • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others.
    • Complies with Confluence Health and the Radiology department standards pertaining to the use of sick leave and unpaid absences due to medical reasons.
  • Desired:
    • Additional training in other diagnostic imaging modalities, including but not limited to: CT, Mammography, MRI, NM, and Ultrasound.
    • One year or more as a radiologic technologist.
    • ARRT mammography certification
    • Certification or registry in any other diagnostic imaging field.
