Washington’s “Med Takeback Day” is set for Saturday, October 27,2018. It is a day when health care organizations remind citizens to safely dispose of unused and expired medications that could be potentially abused or accidentally ingested.

Since installing medical takeback boxes in locations around North Central Washington, Confluence Health has collected 1,650 pounds of unused and expired medications (controlled and non-controlled) to be destroyed safely. Confluence Health Pharmacy Manager Laurel Aaberg said “this medication is being taken out of homes, away from children that could get into those medications and potentially ingest or abuse them. Additionally, the medication is being incinerated and disposed of safely vs. ending up in our landfills or water supplies around the country.”

“We often receive questions from our customers asking how they can safely get rid of their unused medications,” said Glenn Adams, SVP Ancillary Services. “We’re happy to be able to give back to our community and customers by providing a safe solution to getting unused medications out of their homes and harm’s way.”

Patients can stop by one of the below locations during regular business hours and safely dispose of their medications:
