Confluence Health Pediatric Department specialize in the health and treatment of children from birth through adolescence. Along with diagnosing illnesses and prescribing medications, pediatricians monitor children’s physical, mental and social development, advise adolescents on a range of emotional and social issues and counsel families.
Our pediatric nurses are trained in the fields of intensive care, orthopedics, obstetrics, medical-surgical and ambulatory care. They regularly attend continuing education classes to build upon their pediatric nursing skills.
At Confluence Health we encourage parents to be actively involved in their child’s care, ask questions if need be. Our staff explains every phase of the treatment and helps the parents be a partner in the healing process. Children will feel more comfortable having their parents involved, and parents will feel more confident to care for their child once they return home.
The newborn screen is a state managed test for all newborns, and they are tested at birth and about 2 weeks of age. It is a blood test that looks for uncommon but potentially serious diseases in children. If the screen is positive for an infant, the state notifies the physician, and then physician and family talk about the problem and determine a plan to help the baby. Early awareness of these medical conditions is very helpful to the infant and family, and saves precious time in making an early diagnosis without wondering what the problem is for the infant. This testing process has saved many lives and has prevented further serious illness in many infants.
