Job Description

OVERALL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

As a member of the Confluence Health management team, the Women and Children Service Line Director (SLD) oversees the outpatient operations of Obstetrics, Gynecology, Pediatrics and Genetics Counseling for Women and Children across all Confluence Health sites and ensures the vision and strategy achieves excellence in all aspects of the Women and Children Service Line. The SLD partners with the Service Line Medical Director (SLMD) to develop, implement, and manage all aspects of the SL medical practices and to support the strategic initiatives of Confluence Health. The SLD/ SLMD dyad promotes high levels of satisfaction with patients, providers, and staff by proactively addressing concerns through meaningful measures and interventions. They are accountable for patient care management, resource management, and fiscal management. They are expected to collaborate with their inpatient partners to develop, implement and achieve SL goals across the continuum of care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Establish strong partnership and collaborative working relationship with physicians, APCs, SL Practice Manager/ Physician Manager Dyads, SVP/Medical Director Dyad, and other team members.

  2. Partner with the SLMD to develop and implement strategic plan for Service Line.

  3. Provide leadership in the development and enhancement of Women and Children Services across the continuum of care.

  4. Facilitate change that enhances the patient experience.

  5. Represent services to the community, ensuring the provision of innovative community-based education and services.

  6. Develop and complete comprehensive assessment of the SL annually, including market share, utilization, profitability, referral patterns, and future business opportunities. Partner with Marketing and Business Development to ensure SL growth.

  7. Partner with SLMD to develop SL goals and objectives across the CH continuum. Creates action plans and monitor results. Implement process improvement utilizing CHVS tools to meet or exceed targets.

  8. Achieve best practice benchmarks for all in the SL.

  9. Travel to other clinics within the SL to support standard work across CH.

Performance Management

  1. In partnership with SL Physician leaders, provide input for APC performance reviews.

  2. Conduct performance reviews for direct reports and provide input for indirect report.

  3. Provide support and coaching for direct reports and assist with development plans for staff as needed. Mentor new leaders.
  4. Discipline and terminate employees as required in consultation with HR.

  5. Problem solve issues raised by physicians, employees, and patients.

  6. Liaison with SLD colleagues for continuity of care issues across Service Lines.

Operations Management

  1. Develop SL budgets in partnership with SLMD. Responsible for achieving budget targets. Collaborate with Materials Management to negotiate contracts.

  2. Work collaboratively with Practice Managers and Physician Managers to evaluate SL needs such as new equipment, devices, support personnel, marketing, or other.

  3. Accountable for SL P&Ls.

  4. Accountable for execution and achievement of SL goals in alignment with CH mission and strategies. Evaluate trends, variances and opportunities for improvement. Assist Practice Management dyads to define and/or realign variances.

  5. Ensure policies, procedures, and standards are in compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies. Accountable for inspections and completion of plans for correction.

  6. May provide consultation on complex projects and with the SLMD is considered to be the subject matter expert for the SL.

  7. Utilize Advisory Board resources and training to achieve best practice.

  8. Responsible for development and maintenance of SL channels for communication.

  9. Ensure development and utilization of Standard Work across the SL.

Provider Relations In Conjunction with SL Medical Director

1. Participate in physician and APC recruitment for service line.

2. Establish regular contact with each practice physician and develop working rapport.

3. Insure that physicians receive all pertinent information to achieve the goals of the SL.

Patient Relations

1. Support and promote a positive image of the practice.

2. Monitor patient feedback and contribute to the process of resolving patient complaints and service issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATIONBachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Healthcare or related area and 5 years of related experience required. Master’s Degree in Health Administration or MBA is strongly desired. Clinical background preferred.

EXPERIENCE (Required)

1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field or related area.

2. Minimum of 3 years of leadership or management experience in a healthcare setting.

3. Proficiency within the Microsoft Office suite of software required.

EXPERIENCE (Preferred)

1. Lean Certification/trained.

2. Proficiency with Epic EHR.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

This position requires the following minimum requirements:

3. Knowledge of accounting systems, insurance billing and collecting, and budgets.

4. Skill in planning, organizing, and supervising.

6. Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients, and the public.

7. Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.

8. Ability to counsel/discipline personnel as requested or as may become necessary.

9. Ability to delegate authority, responsibility to other staff personnel as deemed necessary to perform their assigned duties.

10. Ability to handle information in a confidential manner.

11. Must maintain primary residence in the Confluence Health service area.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:

Job entails walking, sitting, standing and climbing stairs. Also required is a full range of body motion including reaching above and below shoulder height; pulling/pushing, lifting/lowering and carrying weights up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and use of keyboard and medical equipment. Requires hand/eye coordination and use of telephone. Requires hearing and vision correctable to normal limits. Normal depth perception, speaking ability and sense of touch required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is done throughout a specific clinical/reception area of the building. Some work areas may be small, crowded, and confined. Job requires both working closely with others and working alone. Hours can vary from a normal schedule and overtime may be required. Stressful working conditions do exist.

HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Requires updating CPR skills on an annual basis. Requires understanding and compliance with Confluence Health safety procedures, including code and evacuation procedures. Requires compliance with clinic/area standards pertaining to the use of unscheduled paid time-off and unpaid absences due to medical reasons. Requires understanding and following of all universal blood and body fluids precautions and associated engineering and work practice controls and personal protective equipment requirements. There is likely to be frequent exposure to infectious diseases, medical preparations and other conditions common to a clinical setting. Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals and skin irritants may occur. Requires ability to respond to emergency situations without posing a threat to the health or safety of oneself or others.
