Every year, children ages 8 and up are invited to participate in a unique heart dissection event led by experienced medical professional, Catherine Straub, Robotic Surgery. With over eight years of teaching this workshop, Dr. Straub brings a passion for anatomy and hands-on learning, making the session both educational and memorable.

The event offers kids the chance to work directly with doctors and healthcare providers, learning about the structure and function of the heart in a supportive environment. Some children are fascinated by the “gore” of dissection, while others dive into understanding how their own hearts work. Many take the opportunity to ask questions about medical careers, sparking curiosity about the world of healthcare.

The highlight for many participants is the moment they get to cut open a real heart. While some expect it to be gross or strange, most are amazed by what they discover inside, gaining a new appreciation for the complexity and beauty of human anatomy.

This hands-on experience not only teaches important scientific concepts but also inspires future interest in medicine and science, making it a perfect activity around Valentine’s Day and beyond.
