Our healthcare organization is dedicated to supporting the next generation of health professionals through comprehensive student services. We offer educational support, professional development, community engagement, and mentorship to ensure students are well-prepared for their careers. Our initiatives foster collaboration between students, healthcare providers, and community organizations that empower individuals and strengthen communities.
Confluence Health Student Program educational experiences are extended to students enrolled in a professional and/or occupational program of accredited teaching institution and or Healthcare Organization. This is a formal program of study in which the student is currently enrolled and is seeking clinical rotation, clerkship, externship or practicum experience.
The Observation Program at Confluence Health offers invaluable insights into patient care and administrative processes. Attendees will gain an understanding of healthcare delivery, develop practical skills by observing professionals, and build relationships that can lead to additional opportunities in life.
Developed for non-employees working within healthcare (i.e. a hospital, EMS organization or clinic) that are seeking practical experience or training. This program can be observational (simply observing healthcare workflows) or hands-on (involved in the treatment of patients under the supervision of Confluence Health staff).
Student Service Programs may require:
- Minimum of 18 years of age and
- High school graduate
- An affiliation agreement with the school or program
- Drug screening, background check, immunization review, TB testing
- Completion of a program application
- A current professional photo
- Adherence with Confluence Health policies

Dress Code
All students/observers and trainees are required to comply with our policy on professional appearance. To read our dress code policy, click here. You may be expected to wear the uniform required by your program.
Parking
All students are required to comply with our parking policy for patients, visitors, physicians, employees, volunteers, students and vendors.
Discounts
Students with appropriate identification can qualify for discounts at Confluence Health food services facilities and the Expressions Gift Shop.
Observation Program
An observer is an individual who is permitted to shadow a specific person or department within Confluence Health for educational or career exploration purposes. Observers do not provide patient care, have no physical contact with patients, and do not participate in or direct any aspect of patient treatment. The role of an observer is strictly observational.
Observers must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate. Observation experiences may be approved for up to eight hours per calendar year in any Confluence Health department. High school students (juniors or seniors only) interested in observing should contact the Career Pathways Coordinator for application details. Placement deadlines are October 1 for winter (January–March), February 1 for spring (April–June), and May 1 for autumn (September–December).
Observation requests are reviewed based on department availability, patient census, staffing, and space limitations, and approval is not guaranteed. Applications are processed once all requirements are met. If an observation is not completed within six months of application, a new application may be required. Approved observers will need to submit a professional photo for an ID badge and comply with Confluence Health’s dress code and parking policies. While immunization records are not required, observers must be healthy, and staying up to date on immunizations is strongly recommended.

Medical Students, APP Students, Residents & Fellows
Medical Students
Confluence Health has educational affiliation agreements with the University of Washington, Washington State University, and Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences. Requests from other medical schools are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Students
Nurse Practitioner student partnerships include the University of Washington, Washington State University, Gonzaga University, and Pacific Lutheran University. Physician Assistant student placements are coordinated through the University of Washington MEDEX Physician Assistant Program.
