Gautam Nayak, MD

About

I grew up in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, just outside of Kansas City, and enjoyed playing soccer, tennis, and any other sport that allowed me time with my friends. I went to college in Indiana and medical school in New Orleans, where I met my wife, Bindu. After medical school, I served 10 years in the Navy as a physician, completing my training and also deploying for 9 months to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi / Enduring Freedom. I have been in Wenatchee since 2009, and have enjoyed all the region has to offer. In my spare time, I continue to play soccer and co-founded the US Medical Soccer Team with a close friend from medical school.

I am currently serving as the President of the American College of Cardiology Washington Chapter, having been elected by my peers around the state to represent them on the national level. I also recently completed terms as a Board Member of the Wenatchee Valley Medical Group and Confluence Health. I am most proud to have started the first specialty clinical telemedicine program in the region in 2016 to help me better connect with my patients in Okanogan County, leading the way for the organization to better serve our entire region.

As a general, invasive cardiologist, I am interested in everything heart-related. My career has drawn me towards the syndrome of heart failure, which is a complex and challenging disease state overlapping all areas of cardiology. As a result, I am focused on maintaining my breadth of knowledge within cardiology. I enjoy the complexity of cardiac conditions and coordinating the best, evidence-based care with my primary care colleagues, other specialists in our region, and super-specialists in large centers in Seattle and Spokane. I led our efforts in developing a cardiac amyloidosis program, leveraging local expertise and regional resources at the University of Washington to provide testing and therapeutics previously only available in Seattle. I have also had the opportunity to study the effects of exercise on the heart, especially in Masters athletes, through projects outside of work and clinical work in our region. I maintain clinical research time where I can with studies that I feel will help our patients.
