Free Prevention Services
In March 2010, Congress passed and the President signed into law the Affordable Care Act, which puts in place comprehensive health insurance reforms that rolled out between 2010 to 2014 and beyond. These reforms apply to all new health plans and to many existing health plans as they are renewed.
What This Means for You
Under the Affordable Care Act, you and your family may be eligible for some important preventive services that can help you avoid illness and improve your health—at no additional cost to you. Preventive services can include screenings, check-ups, vaccinations and patient counseling to prevent illnesses, disease or other health problems.
If your health plan is subject to these new requirements, you will not have to pay a copayment, co-insurance or any deductible to receive the preventive health services. To find out whether these new provisions apply to your health plan, contact your insurer or plan administrator. For more information about which covered preventive services are right for you—based on your age, gender and health status—please ask your PCP (primary care provider).
