Charity Care

It is the policy of Confluence Health to not exclude, deny benefits to, or otherwise discriminate against any person on the grounds of race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status or on the basis of disability or age in the admission to, participation in, or receipt of the services and benefits of any of its programs and activities or in the employment therein, whether carried out by Confluence Health directly or through a contractor or any other entity with whom Confluence Health arranges to carry out its programs and activities.

Eligibility

Confluence Health has a Charity Care Program (financial assistance) so that medical services may be provided to uninsured and underinsured patients who meet the eligibility requirements.

  • Households that are underinsured and uninsured and whose household income* is less than 300% of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Poverty Level will be considered.
  • Only “medically appropriate services” are eligible.
  • Charity Care will only be considered after all other financial resources available to the patient have been explored and exhausted.
*Household income means a group of two or more persons related by birth, marriage, or adoption who live together. All such related persons are considered members of one family.

Application Process:

  • Patients who live within the United States who feel they may be eligible may apply for the Charity Care Program.
  • The application must be filled out in its entirety and returned within 30 days.
  • Each patient will have an initial determination done prior to sending the application and will be reviewed for other programs prior to the sending of the Charity Care application.

Ineligible services:

  • Motor vehicle related services or 3rd party responsibility
  • Patients who reside outside of our service area.
  • Elective services (i.e. pregnancy services, circumcisions, hearing aids, etc.)
  • Non medically appropriate services (not medically necessary).

Final determination

Confluence Health will notify the applicant of its final determination within fourteen (14) days of receipt of the application and all documentation material. A patient may appeal a denial of eligibility for Charity Care by providing additional verification of income or family size to the patient services manager within thirty (30) days of receipt of notification.

Definitions:

  • Income: Total cash receipts before taxes derived from wages, salaries, welfare/social security payments, strike payments, unemployment, disability benefits, child support/alimony and net earnings from business and investment activities paid to the individual.
  • Household: A group of two or more persons related by birth, marriage or adoption who live together. All such related persons are considered members of one family.
