Neurology
We Specialize in the Treatment of Nervous System Disorders
A neurologist is a medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and management of nervous system disorders, including diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles.
When examining a patient, our neurologists typically look at the nerves of the head and neck, muscle strength and movement, balance and reflexes, and cognitive abilities such as sensation, memory, speech, and language.
The neurologists also utilize a variety of diagnostic tests, including EEG (Electroencephalography), EMG/NCV (Electromyography/Nerve Conduction Velocity), VER (Visual Evoked Response), VNS testing/calibration (Vagus Nerve Stimulator) and DBS testing/calibration (Deep Brain Stimulator).
Conditions treated include:
- Stroke
- Tumors
- Muscular dystrophy
- Headaches and chronic migraine
- Meningitis
- Encephalitis
- Epilepsy
- Parkinson’s disease
- Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders
- Multiple sclerosis
- ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease)
- Diagnostic Testing
Treatments
Our neurologists are involved in the initial workup and diagnosis of most neurological conditions and take the lead in treating meningitis, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s. The neurologists also serve as consultants to primary care physicians and may collaborate with neurosurgeons when standard treatments are not sufficient to control a particular disease.
Additionally, all of our neurologists have expertise in using Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox) to treat a variety of conditions including chronic migraine, muscle spasticity, torticollis, blepharospasm, and sialorrhea (drooling).
