Hospice Volunteers
Confluence Health Hospital | Central Campus Hospice Volunteers are special people who provide essential services and support to our patients and their caregivers. The presence of a volunteer can help ease those painful times that the terminally ill and their loved ones must face.
Volunteers may fulfill any number of roles, including:
- Respite for caregivers
- Companionship and socialization for patients
- Assistance with errands
- Assistance with correspondence, office work, or other special projects
- Assistance with light household chores or tasks
Volunteers participate in an extensive training course covering Hospice history, philosophy, the interdisciplinary team approach, communication skills, confidentiality ethics, grief and loss, universal precautions, safety in the home, spirituality, and more. This training prepares volunteers how to best accommodate the needs of the patients and families. Volunteers must pass a background check and complete required immunizations.
Following the training, volunteers are asked to provide 2-4 hours of service per week with patients and/or families, and attend monthly volunteer meetings.
